My New Home and Other Trivia

Welcome to my new home on the internet. The same as my old home, only different.

Why, you ask, would I do something as mind-numbingly tedious as uproot my old web site and move it to a new web site just to make it all look pretty much exactly the same? It really boils down to one thing: money. The old hosting provider was charging me $150/year for their service. The new one is charging me $24/year for the same service. So, while I didn’t have any technical problem with the old site – they were available 24×7, their support was good, and they only decided to screw me out of one feature that was present when I first signed up with them – I just couldn’t really abide the thought of spending $380 more on something that I’ve gotten extremely poor at updating.

So here’s the new me: pretty much the same as the old me, only the name (for the moment) is different. Once I get through the tedium of telling the old provider to unlock my domain name, provide me with the auth code and EPP code, give that to me new provider and have them transfer the domain, into-the-blue.com will hopefully point here too.

Anyways, while I’m on a roll it seems like its a good idea to boast about the insanely magnificent prowess that I’ve exhibited in triathlons over the last year. That’s right, just because I haven’t actually blogged much about training or racing doesn’t mean that I haven’t done any of them. So without further ado, here’s what I managed to achieve in triathlons over the last year:

Race Result
Spring Fling Sprint 11th overall (68 competitors, so small race), 5th in age group
Black Fly International Tri 57th overall (419 competitors), 12th in age group
Appleman Sprint Tri 40th overall (498 competitors), 5th in age group
Wild Cat Sprint Tri 13th overall (270 competitors), 4th in age group
Urban Epic Boston Tri 21st overall (294 competitors), 2nd in age group
Timberman Sprint Tri 48th overall (1100 competitors), 5th in age group

Overall I’m pretty happy with the results, especially the Timberman result. Next year hopefully I’ll continue to improve, especially since the Mistress of Pain has decided to return to running once again.

So that’s it for the moment for my hugely inspired blog post. New Site. Almost New Year. Same old attitude.

  • Interesting … your RSS feed made it thru Google Reader with the domain name change. I wonder if Goog’s adjusted that, or did you do something?

Anyhow, your RSS subscribers are unaffected. So, kudos!

Who did you pick for your hosting company? I think I wanna dump Aplus. They just put me thru some serious pain this past month …

Sweet – glad to hear it all worked. I wound up choosing webhostingpad.com as the new hosting provider. To get the $1.99/month rate you have to sign up and pay for 3 years, but since my previous one was $149/year that wasn’t really a hardship. They had already renewed my domain name, so I left the registrar the same and modified their DNS entries to point to my new hosting provider. Then, in the new hosting provider’s cpanel, I added into-the-blue.com as a parked domain, and after 24-36 hours of propagating through the web, voila I have a new hosting site with 2 domain names going to the same place.

Of course the next thing for me is to actually start blogging again. I think I’m going to try doing something like a photo a day. Stay tuned …
